CALM - FATHER’S DAY REDESIGN
For Fathers Day 2024, we challenged 33 artists to redesign a selection of generic off-the-shelf Father’s Day cards. Usually showing stereotypical sheds, beers or golf, or having borderline offensive messaging, we wanted to bring a more positive message to the cards. All cards were displayed in exhibition and auctioned off online, with all proceeds going to CALM.
︎ Check out all the cards on The Auction Collective [auction ends 5th June]

Each artist supplied us with an ode, describing what Father’s Day means to them. Here’s a selection of our favourites:
Oli Frape “Thanks for being present”
“An ode to my dad who was always a very hands on dad, always there when I needed him and generally very available and involved in my life as a child (and still is now as an adult)!”
Paul Davis “Orion”
“I really miss my dad. After 45 years of him not being around, I still want to turn to him to ask him things. We laughed a lot together. He knew the absurdities of life. I wrote a brief description of being in the garden with him one starry night back in Somerset. It must have been the late 1960s or early 70s. He told me about the speed of light, what we then knew of the universe and how earthly humans should try to be decent. Every time I look up to see the stars I think of him. So I edited and rewrote the lazy Father’s Day message about not being bothered and made it about being bothered instead, even 45 years later.”
Hattie Stewart “Best Papa Ever”
"I lost my papa over 2 years ago and miss him everyday - out of all the selects this one with the slippers caught my eye, they felt so lonely sat there on their own. It was nice to bring a bit of love and life back onto the card in a playful way. My papa would love it, he loved everything I did. I miss him."
Marylou Faure “The Best”
“The message given through a dad's card should be as warm, tender and loving as a the one given to a mum's one. It will help balance things out for everyone if that starts happening more, and dads deserve to be told we love them without it being turned into a joke.”
Jack Mears “Pool Legend”
“My dad showed me how to play pool when I was a tiny little boy. Legendary.”
Marla Morris, aged 4 “I Love Daddy”
